Role

Alex DeOteris is a Managing Director in Financial Institutions, focused on advising specialty lending, financial services, financial technology and private equity clients across M&A, structured capital markets and partnership transactions.

Alex helps lead the Financial Institutions group’s coverage of the specialty lending ecosystem across the auto finance, credit card, equipment finance, personal loan, point of sale, small business finance and trade finance sectors, in addition to other diversified or esoteric asset classes across the broader consumer and commercial credit universe.

He joined the firm in 2020.

Experience

Alex has nearly 15 years of experience covering the financial services sector with an emphasis on credit-related businesses. Over the course of his career as an advisor and investment professional, Alex has been involved with over $100B+ financial services-related transactions.

Alex previously worked for Waterfall Asset Management, a $12B+ investment manager, where he focused on structured equity and debt financings for financial services and technology companies and also served as the CFO of one of the firm’s largest portfolio companies. Alex previously worked for a multi-family office pursuing a similar private investing strategy across the capital structure. He began his career as a credit-focused investment banker at Lehman Brothers.

Since joining Solomon Partners, Alex has led or been involved with many transactions, including:

  • GoldenTree Asset Management on its sale of a portfolio of small business credit card assets
  • CAL Automotive, a subsidiary of Auto Lenders, Inc., on its $1.5B joint venture financing with Ares
  • Shaker Auto Lease on its sale to Jim Pattison Lease
  • A leading premium credit card program management company on its sale to a major global bank
  • CURO on the sale of its subsidiary, Flexiti, to Questrade
  • ECN Capital on the sale of its subsidiary, Kessler Group, to Stone Point Capital
  • On the Barrelhead on its $150M sale NerdWallet
  • A major US bank on the renegotiation of its credit card program with a major US airline
  • BJ’s Wholesale Club on the movement of its credit card program to Capital One from Bread Financial
  • CIBC on its acquisition of the Costco Canada credit card portfolio from Capital One
  • The Gap on the movement of its credit card program to Barclays and Mastercard from Synchrony and Visa
  • Bank of America on the valuation of a credit card portfolio in connection with its sale to Bread Financial
  • GoodLeap on its $1B forward flow agreement with a top 15 US bank holding company
  • Stoic Lane on a $175M+ capital raise anchored by Oaktree in conjunction with the acquisition of Interfirst Mortgage
  • Bakkt, a subsidiary of Intercontinental Exchange, on its $3.7B merger into VPC Impact Acquisition Holdings
  • Mattress Firm on the renegotiation of its private label credit card program with Synchrony Financial
  • PayBright on its C$340M sale to Affirm

Education

Alex holds a BA, cum laude, in History and Spanish from Bucknell University where he was also a member of the school’s Division I varsity baseball team.
