Joseph Stein is a Managing Director and leads Solomon Partners’ Financing Advisory. In that capacity, Mr. Stein advises on financing transactions for the firm’s clients including the placement of debt and equity securities with institutional investors.
Since joining Solomon Partners in 2001, Mr. Stein has arranged more than $15 billion of debt and equity capital for acquisitions, general corporate purposes and highly structured rescue financing. Loans or other securities are typically placed with an array of banks, BDCs, finance companies, hedge funds, specialty debt funds or other institutional investors.
Select transactions which Mr. Stein has arranged include: $835 million senior secured debt recapitalization for RadioShack Corporation, $150 million senior secured debt with warrants for Zale Corporation, $150 million senior secured debt with warrants for Quiksilver, $445 million senior secured recapitalization for Media General, Inc. with Berkshire Hathaway, $2.4 billion of debt and equity financing for Sony/ATV Music Publishing’s acquisition of EMI Music Publishing and $165 million senior secured debt financing for take-private of Kenneth Cole Productions, Inc.
Mr. Stein was previously Executive Director and Head of the Private Placement Group at UBS Warburg LLC, responsible for the structure and placement of senior debt, subordinated debt and mezzanine securities for both domestic and foreign issuers. With more than 20 years of experience in investment banking, Mr. Stein began his career at Manufacturers Hanover Trust Company in asset-based finance. He held various corporate finance positions at Citicorp Securities.
Mr. Stein holds an MBA from William E. Simon Graduate School of Business Administration at the University of Rochester and a BA from Hobart College.
