Derek Bentley is a Partner and serves as Head of Energy Transition. He joined the firm in 2024.

Experience

Derek has more than 25 years of experience as both a principal investor and strategic advisor. He has executed over $75 billion of M&A, corporate finance, and project finance transactions for large and small public and private companies, as well as asset portfolios across a broad range of industries and across six continents.

  • Enlight Renewable Energy on the US Initial Public Offering and the acquisition of Clenera
  • Shell on the acquisition of Savion
  • BP on the acquisition of the remaining stake of Lightsource BP
  • The Special Committee on the sale of TerraForm Power
  • AltaGas on the sale of its distributed generation portfolio
  • Diamond Generating Corporation on the Nexamp capital raise and deconsolidation
  • Macquarie Infrastructure Corporation on the sale of its partnership interest in Intersect Power as well as its operating wind and solar portfolios
  • The founder of 8 minutenergy on the sale of the company
  • The Board of Directors of Deepwater Wind on its sale to Ørsted
  • TerraForm Power’s Conflicts Committee on its equity financing for the acquisition of Saeta Yield
  • Atlantica Yield on its strategic partnership with Algonquin Power & Utilities Corp.

Derek was previously Global Head of Low Carbon Infrastructure at Nomura Greentech / Greentech Capital Advisors, where he led the establishment of the group and created one of the leading global advisory firms in the sector. Prior to Greentech, Derek was a Director in the Energy & Power group within Investment Banking at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. Before that role, Derek was involved in the launching of Hydro Capital Corporation, a private equity investment firm created as a growth platform for the development and acquisition of highly structured international infrastructure projects in under-served markets, and the sale of the company to Mitsui.

Education

Derek holds a BA from Yale University, where he was a four-year member of the varsity football team and earned All-Ivy League honors as a running back.
