PJSC Hosts Charity Reception for “UPLIFT” to Raise Awareness of Food Deserts in the United States
Over 20 million Americans live in food deserts, where there is no access to nearby grocery stores. Last week PJSC was pleased to gather friends, clients and advocates to “Meet UpLift”, a nonprofit organization founded in 2009 with one core mission: To create access to fresh and healthy food for low-income communities in food deserts across the country. UpLift helps food retailers work with national, state and local government programs to build profitable grocery stores in these areas.
The event was organized by Scott Moses, the Head of PJSC’s Food Retail & Restaurants advisory practice, which advises food retailers, particularly family-owned grocers, on the creation of value for their owners, their teams and their communities. Mr. Moses sits on UpLift’s Board of Directors and remains highly committed to raising awareness of UpLift’s mission, particularly in the food retail and private investment communities. When it comes to bringing the fresh and healthy alternatives of grocery stores to underserved markets, Mr. Moses stressed, “We can do more; it is the right thing to do and it is the smart thing to do.”
